Job Summary
Under general supervision of the City Assessor or designee performs varied responsibilities and duties in the day-to-day operations relating to personnel, payroll, purchasing and exemptions.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Receives each Indigent Applications filed with the Assessor’s Office, reviews, and verifies all facts and figures contained on application. Calculates resulting allowance and communicates said resulting allowance or disallowance to the Taxpayer and the Assessor. Computes taxes for the year, allowing the appropriate percentage increase to the taxpayer who earns less than the minimum income cap.
- Responsible for purchase and requisition of supplies and services. Keeps financial records relating to department purchases, provides reports as requested.
- Prepares the preparation of weekly payroll and maintains associated records as assigned by the Assessor.
- Receives and verifies all applications for personal exemptions for real estate and motor vehicles. Calculates and enters resulting data in the Govern system.
- Prepares and process abatements, maintains and updates records, and completes monthly abatement reports.
- Performs clerical and secretarial duties as assigned by the Assessor or designee including, but not limited to, typing letters, creating spreadsheets and memos.
- Coordinates and participates in phone and counter coverage.
- Communicates with and assists customers to obtain information, respond to inquiries, and investigate complaints.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- . High school diploma or equivalency.
- Knowledge of office procedures, practices, equipment and commonly used software such as word processing programs, Excel, and Outlook calendar management.
- Must be able to gain a working knowledge of departmental technology and database systems
- Must be able to understand and carry out complex oral and written instructions.
- Must be able to read and understand detailed legal documents.
- Must be able to communicate effectively and courteously.
- Must be able to perform all essential functions of the job.
Training Requirements
Upon Appointment:
- Successful completion of Advanced Computer Training course within six (6) months of appointment.
- Completion of intermediate Access, Outlook, Excel, Word and Acrobat Adobe within six (6) months.
- Must be able to gain a working knowledge of departmental technology and database systems through on-the-job usage and training within six (6) months.
Sustainment:
- Periodic training to maintain proficient in department technology and database systems.
- Participation in customer service training every 36 months.
- Periodic training in ethics, diversity/sensitivity, procurement, payroll practices, workplace safety and other professional development to ensure high performance and value-driven operations.
