Job Summary
Under general direction and supervision of a foreman or up-line personnel, performs manual work doing a variety of skilled tasks, performs routine custodial work and general janitorial duties as assigned; and related work as required.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Performs a variety of duties requiring manual skills or special knowledge acquired on the job.
- Performs skilled tasks, including but not limited to painting, laying out sewer lines, drain lines, mixing of cement, tending to cement finisher as required.
- Performs routine custodial work and janitorial duties as directed including, but not limited to, general cleaning of areas assigned, moving furniture and/or equipment, making minor repairs, cleaning sidewalks of debris and snow/ice.
- Assists foreman of a crew for a specific task such as making a highway patch or removing snow.
- Performs skilled work and other related duties as assigned.
- Assists in flushing of sewer lines.
- Enter manholes as required.
Minimum Qualifications
- Must possess and maintain a valid state vehicle operator’s license. Must also attain a CDL permit within six (6) months in position and must attain CDL with air brakes endorsement within nine (9) months in position, except in cases in which a bona fide physical limitation prevents attainment of such CDL permit and/or CDL with air brakes endorsement.
- Successful completion of Confined Space certification within six (6) months of appointment.
- Must be proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
- Successful completion of a Work Zone Safety and Flagging certification within six (6) months of appointment.
- Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions and to keep routine records.
- Experience in performing light and heavy manual labor and in using hand tools; ability to conduct preventative maintenance, not requiring licensing.
- Knowledge of simple building maintenance, cleaning methods, materials, and equipment.
- Must be able to perform all essential functions of the job.
- Knowledge of construction procedures and practices, pertaining to pipe line work and general construction.
The term “limited” means that the successful candidate will perform the job for an undetermined length of time. The position may or may not become permanent.
