Job Summary

As the horticultural enthusiast, you will be focused on sharing educational information regarding plants with visitors.  This position will enhance the overall experience for visitors in the Conservatory and adjacent greenhouses.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Engage Visitors: Welcome and interact with visitors at the Roger Williams Park Botanical Center, providing a warm and friendly greeting.
  • Plant Knowledge: Share your passion for horticulture by providing information about the diverse plant collections, seasonal highlights, and unique features in tours and with created printed materials.
  • Ecosystem Knowledge:  Understanding the role plants play in ecosystem services and climate resilience.
  • Plant Care:  Under the guidance of the Director, create and implement plant projects to help educate the public in regards to plant care, maintenance and ecosystem importance.
  • Guided Tours: Conduct guided tours, showcasing the beauty and significance of various plant species.
  • Answer Queries: Respond to visitor questions related to plants, gardening, and conservation.
  • Promote Education: Encourage visitors to explore workshops, programs, and resources related to horticulture.
  • Assist with Events: Collaborate with the team during special events and workshops.
  • Maintain a Positive Atmosphere: Contribute to creating a memorable and enjoyable experience for all visitors.
  • Other job duties as requested.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Plant Passion: Genuine enthusiasm for plants, gardening, and horticulture.
  • Experience:  At least 2 + years’ experience working in the plant industry.
  • Excellent Communication: Clear communication skills to engage visitors of all ages.
  • Adaptability: Ability to tailor information based on visitor interests and knowledge levels.
  • Customer Service: Friendly and approachable demeanor.
  • Basic Plant Knowledge: Familiarity with plant care, species, and gardening practices.
  • Availability: Willingness to work weekends and holidays.
