Job Summary

Performs complex clerical tasks necessary to the Board of Canvassers’ mission of conducting and protecting the integrity of the electoral process and effectively and efficiently administering the provisions of the election laws of the United State and the State of Rhode Island

During Election time you will be required to work overtime based on the needs of the office.

Duties & Responsibilities

  1. Processes mail ballot applications, performs volume data entry, and assists in recruiting and coordinating with polling officials to ensure Election Day coverage.
  2. Compiles, copies, sorts, files, and maintains documents and supporting files for accuracy and consistency.
  3. Types or utilizes a computer to prepare correspondence, reports, documents, and forms; operates online database used for voter registration.
  4. Prepares a variety of reports.
  5. Opens and properly distributes mail.
  6. Operates all standard office machines and phone system.
  7. Communicates with and assists customers to obtain information, respond to inquiries, and investigate complaints.
  8. Researches non-technical information, prepares report of findings, and disseminates information to customers.
  9. Works reasonable number of mandatory and unscheduled hours to include early morning, evenings and weekends.
  10. Operates online database used for voter registration.
  11. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  1. Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Outlook and Excel.
  2. Ability to communicate effectively and courteously.
  3. Ability to understand and carry out complex written and oral instructions.
  4. Considerable skill and accuracy with basic mathematics, business English, and bookkeeping principles.
  5. Knowledge of general office procedures, practices, and equipment.
  6. Must be able to perform all essential functions of the job.
