Job Summary
Under supervision of up-line management, performs skilled work in the organization and implementation of required tasks, equipment and materials necessary to the operation, maintenance, installation, and repair of the water system facilities and appurtenances.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Assigns, supervises, and directs construction crews responsible for the timely completion of assigned tasks pertaining to the operation, maintenance, and repair of the water system facilities and appurtenances.
- Performs a variety of duties requiring manual skills or special knowledge and participates in daily work assignments.
- Guides and instructs crews to ensure work is completed in compliance with all relevant practices, procedures, rules, regulations and ordinances, and state and federal laws; particular attention is required to compliance with safety regulations, traffic regulations, backfilling, and appropriate restoration of surfaces.
- Organizes daily task assignments ensuring that required materials and equipment are delivered safely to the worksite and that the worksite is secures, traffic properly controlled, and crewmembers protected.
- Prepares and completes accurate work orders and maintains records of daily activities utilizing the asset management program.
- Adheres to all Providence Water safety procedures.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- High school graduate or equivalent.
- Must possess and maintain a valid State Driver’s License and is responsible to maintain all vehicles maintenance logs.
- Must possess and maintain a Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL), with air-brake endorsement.
- Must possess a Level I-D Drinking Water Operator’s Certificate and maintain certification by attending continuing education (C.E.U.) programs.
- Considerable knowledge in the operation, construction, replacement, maintenance, and repair of water distribution system facilities and appurtenances.
- Knowledge of materials, methods, equipment, tools, and techniques currently used in water supply operations and construction.
- Ability to read and interpret distribution plans, GIS, layouts, and sketches.
- Ability to understand and carry out written and oral instructions.
- Ability to communication effectively and courteously both orally and in writing.
- Ability to supervise crews and direct the performance of work in an efficient manner.
- Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships.
- Ability to prepare and complete accurate reports evidencing work pertinent to the assigned shift.
- Ability to perform arduous work with assigned equipment often under adverse weather conditions.
- Ability to respond to all emergencies in the distribution system on a twenty-four (24) hour basis.
- Must be able to pass all requirements and conditions to be fit tested to wear the appropriate job required respirator.
- Must be able to perform all essential functions of the job.
Training Requirements
Upon Appointment:
- Customer Service Training
- Sexual Harassment, Sensitivity, and Diversity Training
- Successful completion of Basic Computer Training course within 180 days of appointment and Asset Management training within 60 days of appointment.
Sustainment:
- Participation in customer service training every 24 months.
- Must maintain a valid State Driver’s License.
- Must maintain a Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL), with air-brake endorsement.
- Must maintain a Level I-D Drinking Water Operator’s Certificate and maintain certification by attending continuing education (C.E.U.) programs.
- Must be able to pass all requirements and conditions to be fitted to wear the appropriate job required respirator.
The term “limited” means that the successful candidate will perform the job for an undetermined length of time. The position may or may not become permanent.
