Job Summary

Provide administration of desktop services under guidance and direction of City Chief Information Officer or designated manager.

Duties & Responsibilities

  1.  Configure, deploy and support desktop computers and peripherals.
  2. Receive and respond to help desk calls, provide technical support and enter information in City designated Request Management system.
  3. Troubleshoot operating system problems.
  4. Operate production equipment, including high volume printers and document finishing machines.
  5. Oversee the quality of the production, including checking production controls such as batch totals.
  6. Provide initial installation and support for end-user-based equipment as required.
  7. Generate electronic files, manage transmission and receipt of transfers with business partners.

Minimum Qualifications

  1.  An associate degree from an accredited college or university; and a minimum of three (years) experience working in a computing environment similar in size and complexity to the City of Providence; or a combination of education and experience that is substantially equivalent to the above.
  2. Knowledge of a range of computer operating systems/applications including Windows Servers/Client OS (current versions), Microsoft Active Directory, Microsoft Exchange Server, Microsoft Office (Current Version) and other tools and applications as determined by City IT director/CIO.
  3. Ability to communicate technical information to non-technical personnel.
  4. Knowledge of computer and/or network security systems, applications, procedures, and techniques.
  5. Skill in organizing resources and establishing priorities.
  6. Ability to provide technical assistance to end users. Ability to learn and support new systems and applications.
  7. Work with users requires interpersonal skills.
  8. Capable of providing comprehensive training.
  9. Must possess and maintain a valid state Driver’s License.
  10. Must be able to perform all essential functions of the job.

Training Requirements

Sustainment:  

  1. Maintain skills to support desktop services, as it relates to these duties.

The term “limited” means that the successful candidate will perform the job for an undetermined length of time. The position may or may not become permanent.
