Job Summary
Under supervision of up-line management, is responsible for the operation and maintenance of specialized light equipment associated with all aspects of grounds maintenance, turf maintenance, and field management at Providence Water facilities, responsible for assigned manual labor and related work as required.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Operates a wide range of heavy-duty commercial rotary mowers and turf tractors.
- Operates small vehicle plowing equipment.
- Performs pre-trip and post-trip preventative maintenance checks and inspections. Makes minor operational and preventative maintenance repairs and services equipment.
- Performs inventory check of all tools and light equipment stored on vehicle.
- Cleans equipment, as needed.
- Uses and maintains standard forest management tools including, but not limited to, a chainsaw, power brush cutter, lawn mower, backpack mist blower, chemical brush control spray reforestation equipment, hand axe, brush hook, pruning saw, post-hole digger, and other hand tools organic to the Watershed Division.
- Adheres to all Providence Water safety procedures.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- High school graduate or equivalent.
- Must possess and maintain a valid State Driver’s License and is responsible to maintain all vehicles maintenance logs.
- Knowledge of proper use and maintenance of equipment and tools organic to the Watershed Division relative to all aspects of grounds maintenance and forest culture activities.
- Skill in the use of hand tools and in the operation of vehicles customarily used in the Watershed Division.
- Ability to apply rodenticide, pesticide, and herbicide in accordance with all State regulations.
- Ability to understand and carry out written and oral instructions.
- Ability to perform arduous work often under adverse weather conditions.
- Must be able to pass all requirements and conditions to be fit tested to wear the appropriate job required respirator.
- Must be able to perform all essential functions of the job.
Training Requirements
Upon Appointment:
- Customer Service Training
- Sexual Harassment, Sensitivity, and Diversity Training
- Must obtain and maintain any required Rhode Island certification for the application of rodenticide, pesticide, and herbicide within one (1) year of appointment.
Sustainment:
- Participation in customer service training every 24 months.
- Must maintain a valid State Driver’s License.
- Must maintain any required Rhode Island certification for the application of rodenticide, pesticide, and herbicide.
- Must be able to pass all requirements and conditions to be fit tested to wear the appropriate job required respirator.
The term “limited” means that the successful candidate will perform the job for an undetermined length of time. The position may or may not become permanent.
