Job Summary
This position is responsible for processing, maintaining, and transmitting registrations, certification of voters, and voting list.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Instructs all employees on the duties and procedures relative to the Board of Canvassers and in certifying voting records prior to every election.
- Trains new and temporary staff to ensure they understand the operations of the Board.
- Maintains, corrects, and updates registrations; removes voters from active or inactive lists and cancels registrations.
- Corresponds with other cities and towns for voter records.
- Prepares and organizes all pertinent information for transmittal to computers and to the Office of the Secretary of State.
- Maintains alphabetical file of duplicate registration cards.
- Certifies candidates and nomination papers.
- Prepares payroll when necessary.
- Works overtime in an election year or for special elections.
- Prepares and packs supply bags for the polls and set-up crew, to be delivered to each polling station.
- Responsible for delivery of supplies to polls.
- Responsible for returns from the polls including ballot applications, provisional ballots, and all other supplies.
- Performs other related duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications
- High school graduate or equivalent.
- Four (4) years experience within the Department exhibiting increased responsibilities.
- Successful completion of Computer Training Level III course within six (6) months of appointment.
- Knowledge of Microsoft programs including Excel, Access, and Mail Merge.
- Knowledge of office procedures, practices, and equipment.
- Ability to understand and carry out complex oral and written instructions.
- Ability to work mandatory overtime during election cycle and as needed for special projects.
- Ability to plan, assign, and supervise the work of clerical staff.
- Ability to make decisions in according with department rules and regulations, policies, and procedures.
- Ability to maintain clerical records of some complexity and to prepare reports from such records.
- Ability to communicate effectively and courteously.
- Must be able to perform all essential functions of the job.
The term “limited” means that the successful candidate will perform the job for an undetermined length of time. The position may or may not become permanent.
