Job Summary
Under the general direction and supervision of up-line personnel is responsible for the maintenance and repair of all outdoor and building electrical facilities and lighting in the Providence park system.
Please Note:
A stipend of additional $4.80/hr. shall be paid to any Electrician with a Class A license who surrenders the same to the City for the purpose of working as the City’s representative when the City is acting as a Class A contractor.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Performs skilled repair, maintenance, and installation involving electrical facilities and lighting including, but not limited to, outdoor and building lighting, indoor and outdoor electrical services, wiring and electrical conduit.
- Supervises park maintenance employees in performing routine electrical repairs.
- Reviews all proposed new electrical facilities and lighting plans prior to installation by private contractors.
- Maintains records and prepares reports of job assignments and work completed to Director of Neighborhood Park Services.
- Maintains and controls the inventory of all electrical supplies and materials for the Parks Department; orders replacement items as needed.
- Operates motorized and non-motorized snow removal equipment as directed by up line personnel.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Must possess and maintain a valid Journeyman Electrician’s License issued by the Rhode Island State Board of Examiners of Electricians.
- Experience gained through employment as a journeyman electrician for a minimum of four (4) years.
- Knowledge of the principles, practices, techniques, tools, equipment, and materials used in the electrical trade and skill in their application.
- A working knowledge of the safety codes enforced by the State of Rhode Island.
- Must be able to read and work from electrical wiring diagrams and blueprints.
- Must be able to handle 110 – 220 voltage wires.
- Must be able to understand and carry out complex oral and written instructions.
- Must meet all minimum requirements listed in the Assistant Electrician job description.
- Must be able to use digital asset inventory and work order system.
- Must be able to perform all essential functions of the job.
Training Requirements
Sustainment:
- Successfully completes departmental trainings as directed.
The term “limited” means that the successful candidate will perform the job for an undetermined length of time. The position may or may not become permanent.
