Job Summary
Under supervision of the director of the Department of Public Works (DPW) or designee and in cooperation with the City’s GIS Program Manager, the GIS Coordinator is responsible for the day to-day technical operation of the DPW’s GIS network and assets. Works closely with City agencies and the Department’s IT personnel to provide solutions using the City’s Enterprise GIS System.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Responsible for the day-to-day operation of the DPW’s GIS network and Provides technical assistance and trouble shoots technical problems as they relate to GIS and departmental GIS users. Develop and implement recommendations for GIS initiatives, and departmental/asset management efficiency improvements through the use of GIS.
- Develop, maintain, improve existing and new maps, datasets and/or custom applications for internal and/or public
- Develop standard GIS operating procedure and methods for other departmental GIS users and oversee the GIS work of other departmental Responsible to QA/QC GIS work of others and consultants.
- Develop asset management best practices with regards to Maintain and improve upon existing asset files. Develop new data sets.
- Perform GPS field location of existing or proposed assets, conduct field surveys and compile data in the Public
- Uses computer assisted drafting techniques and equipment (AutoCAD).
- Assists in the development, planning and execution of capital improvement
- Develop data on assets, performance metrics and recommendations for the overall GIS
- Performs other related duties as
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in engineering, environmental sciences, geography, computer science, or related field with a minimum of three (3) years’ experience working with high-end GIS systems, or a High School diploma, with advanced courses, both formal and inf01mal, in GIS systems, with a minimum of ten (10) years’ experience.
- Thorough knowledge and experience in the use of high-end GIS applications including, but not limited to Collector, Field Maps, Workforce, Survey l 23, Explorer and web Ability to customize and program with all current applications of desktop GIS, ArcGIS Online and Portal for ArcGIS.
- Thorough knowledge of relational database management
- Experience in a Microsoft Windows environment using word processing, spreadsheets, databases, email, and
- Ability to perform complex technical research, analysis, and write

- A master’s degree in geographic information systems, engineering, environmental sciences, geography, computer science or related
- A certification as a Geographic Information’s Systems Professional (GISP).
