Job Summary

Under general supervision of the Director of Public Property or designee, performs routine building custodial work and general janitorial duties in public buildings; assigns, supervises, and reviews the work of subordinate Laborers/Custodians performing similar duties; and related work as required. This position will be a roving Foreman position and will be assigned to locations on a rotating basis as needed by the Director of Public Property

This position is from 7am – 3:30pm.

Duties & Responsibilities

  1. Prepares daily work schedules for Laborers/Custodians.
  2. Assigns work to Laborers/Custodians and supervises the work to ensure duties are completed in an acceptable manner.
  3. Opens buildings (opens doors, turns on boilers and lights, etc.)
  4. Cleans Mayor’s front office, including reception area and bathroom, on a daily basis.
  5. Distributes newspapers.
  6. Maintains inventory of supplies including, but not limited to, toilet paper, paper towels, and cleaning products; orders supplies as needed.
  7. Retains copies of daily work logs received from Laborers/Custodians.
  8. Sets up for special events including, but not limited to, promotions, dedications, and celebrations.
  9. Performs duties of Laborer/Custodian in their absence due to illness or vacation.
  10. Surveys building regularly to ensure that light bulbs in offices, hallways, and basement are replaced as needed.
  11. Cleans all exterior steps and sidewalks including sweeping, washing when weather permits, and snow removal.
  12. Maintains a log for routine start-up of generator.
  13. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  1. High school graduate or equivalent.
  2. Minimum of five (5) years’ experience in janitorial or building maintenance work.
  3. Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions and to keep routine records.
  4. Must possess considerable experience in performing simple building maintenance, light, and heavy manual labor, and in using hand tools.
  5. Ability to supervise subordinate workers.
  6. Must be able to perform all essential functions of the job.

 

Training Requirements

The term “limited” means that the successful candidate will perform the job for an undetermined length of time. The position may or may not become permanent.
