Job Summary
Under the general supervision of the GIS Manager, the Geographical Information Systems (GIS) Supervisor directly supervises the day-to-day operations of the GIS support staff who produce and maintain the organization’s GIS data. The GIS Supervisor’s duties and responsibilities include establishing GIS area procedures and standards, performing quality control of all updates, assisting the GIS Manager on all GIS and CAD related projects, and conducting GIS training sessions for the organization’s entire staff. Maintain, catalog, and provide access to accurate records for a range of operational and strategic purposes and liaise with senior managers in order to improve the organization’s efficiency and to help ensure the preservation of archives for the future.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Supervise subordinate employees, assign work activities, projects and programs. Monitor workload productivity of subordinate employees and implement quality control measures.
- Supervise all activities of the GIS area including, but not limited to, the production of reports, maps and information to be used in dashboard applications, in response to data requests or other presentations. Determine map content, appearance, and layout for maximum information with high usability.
- Assist with development and implementation of the division work plan.
- Assist with the development of GIS data, ensuring standardization, and quality control of data produced and maintained by the area.
- Regularly update municipal and base spatial datasets such as parcels and satellite imagery
- Provide GIS technical guidance and assistance to the organization
- Develop and maintain internal manuals, training materials, and system documentation.
- Assist the GIS Manager on all GIS and CAD related projects
- Maintain accurate records for a range of operational and strategic purposes.
- Managing the changeover from paper to electronic records management systems; resolving problems with information management by effective use of software and other information management resources.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college/university of recognized standing in the major field of geography, engineering, computer science, planning; or equivalent academic credentials related to the field of employment; with a minimum of four (4) years of progressively responsible experience performing spatial data collection, editing, and analysis tasks, specialized training in the collection, review, manipulation, and of geospatial data; or any equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Proven experience reading and understanding a variety of maps, specifications, technical studies, reports and regulations relative to water utility planning and operation.
- Knowledge and proficiency with various computer software applications such as ESRI’s ArcGIS programs, AutoCAD, and Microsoft’s Office Suite.
- Supervisory experience of one or more employees preferred
- Excellent office practices to include communication skills, written and verbal.
- Established ability to work under pressure with the flexibility to operate outside of standard business hours.
- Must be able to perform all essential functions of the job.
- Must possess and maintain a valid State driver’s license. Responsible to maintain all vehicles maintenance logs.
