Job Summary

Duties & Responsibilities

Responsibilities under the direction of the Director:

  • With the Botanical Center educator, assist in events for community gardens in the Parks Department.
  • Assist in creating pathways for community gardeners to hold educational forums and share information via the Botanical Center.
  • Assist community gardeners in seeking grants, creating community garden materials and assure websites and other City information is up to date.
  • With the Director’s assistance, oversee the planning, coordination and execution of all Botanical Center volunteer activities in events and programming.
  • Work with the Center’s team to help create successful events with volunteers.
  • With direction from the Center’s Director, manage monthly cash flow.
  • Develop and share with the Center’s team a complete understanding of the requirements for volunteer recruitment, training, materials, engagement, and retainment.
  • Develop and produce content and marketing materials for volunteer recruitment, engagement, and events in print and on-line, including community garden events.
  • Organize and train volunteers as needed across all functions of an event (ex: registration, setup, catering, audio/visual).
  • Assist in day-to-day administration of office tasks such as bookkeeping and office organization.
  • Assist and/or create and programming for special activities as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in hospitality management or public relations.
  • Experience in event planning or event coordination.
  • Experience in managing budgets and tracking expenses.
  • Proven track record of creative, successful programming.
  • Experience working in graphic design, sales, marketing, and communications.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and multitasking skills.
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure and maintain a customer-service mindset.
  • Advanced knowledge of MS software, including Teams and Adobe Suite.
  • Spanish speaking a plus.
