Job Summary

Under general direction and supervision of up-line personnel, is responsible to operate and maintain complex and specialized automotive, maintenance, or other equipment and to perform general manual labor as directed when not operating or servicing equipment. Operates truck during emergencies and/or winter weather events to meet goals and objectives.

1st, 2nd, and 3rd shift

Duties & Responsibilities

  1. Operates a specified type or a variety of equipment for the purpose of the maintenance, construction, and development of public facilities, properties, structures, walkways, or roadways.
  2. Operates sander/snow plow during winter operations.
  3. Performs pre-trip inspections and operator level maintenance on assigned vehicles and equipment; makes minor operational and maintenance repairs and services equipment.
  4. Loads and unloads supplies and material.
  5. Maintains record of assignments, hours of operation, materials and supplies received and delivered, and other pertinent information relative to the equipment operator.
  6. When not engaged in Equipment Operator duties, performs general manual labor as directed.

Minimum Qualifications

  1.  High school graduate or equivalent.
  2. Must possess and maintain a State Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with airbrake endorsement.
  3. Must be able to operate vehicles and equipment with manual transmissions and/or two speed differential.
  4. Working knowledge of the mechanics of gasoline and diesel motors and automotive equipment; skill in the operation, maintenance, and servicing of automotive and other equipment.
  5. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  6. Ability to perform arduous work with assigned equipment often under adverse conditions.
  7. Must be able to perform all essential functions of the job.

Training Requirements

The term “limited” means that the successful candidate will perform the job for an undetermined length of time. The position may or may not become permanent.
